August is Bone Cancer Awareness Month

August is Bone Cancer Awareness Month

Bone cancer is uncommon and begins in a bone. This can begin is any bone in the body but it commonly affects the long bones that make up the arms and legs.

How often does bone cancer occur?

Bone cancer is rare. About 2,300 new cases of primary bone cancer are diagnosed in the United States each year.
What are the symptoms of bone cancer?

The most common symptom of bone cancer is pain but not all bone cancers cause pain. A bone tumor may cause a painless mass. Some people have dull, aching pain. And in some cases, minor injury causes a fracture near the tumor. Persistent or unusual pain or swelling in or near a bone can be caused by cancer. It is important to see a doctor to determine the cause.

How is bone cancer diagnosed?

To help diagnose bone cancer, the doctor also performs a physical examination and may order laboratory and other diagnostic tests. These tests may include the following: X-rays, bone scan, computed tomography (CT or CAT) scan, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) procedure, positron emission tomography (PET) scan, an angiogram, a biopsy (removal of a tissue sample from the bone tumor) to determine whether cancer is present and blood tests may be performed.

Can Chiropractic Care Benefit Your Child?

June 14, 2016
Can chiropractic care benefit your child?

Many spinal problems seen in a someone as early as birth. Birthing can cause stress on an infant’s spine and developing nerve system. Colic, breathing problems, nursing difficulties, sleep disturbances, allergic reactions and chronic infections can often be traced to nerve system stress. These common newborn complaints are often caused by spinal and cranial misalignment.

Since significant spinal trauma can occur at birth, many parents have their newborns checked right away. As an infant grows, and learns to walk, crawl, and sit, this can affect spinal alignment. Chiropractic care can keep your child growing on the right track.

Did you know chiropractic pediatric care is not only for newborns?

Getting your child regular check ups with the chiropractor can prevent or help conditions such as ear infections, asthma, allergies, and headaches (to name a few). Regular check ups or adjustments can help prevent health complaints later see in adults.

It is important to understand that the Doctor of Chiropractic does not treat conditions or diseases. The expertise of the chiropractor is in checking the child’s spine for mis-alignments that impair nerve system function therefore affecting overall body function.

Boost your immune system naturally with Chiropractic Care

Boost your immune system naturally with Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic adjustments relieve you of stress on the nerve system. In turn this allows the nerve system to better direct the immune response.

Subluxation is the term used for misalignments of the spine. This can cause compression and irritation of nerve pathways which affects the organ systems of the body. According to research, stressful conditions as this can lead to altered measures of immune function and increa...sed susceptibility to a variety of diseases.

Inflammatory disease is influenced by the nervous, immune, and endocrine systems. Nerve stimulations affects the growth and function of inflammatory cells. Reasearch has found that dysfunction in this pathway can result in the development of a variety of syndromes such as behavioral syndromes such as depression and inflammatory syndromes such as rheumatoid arthritis.

This neuro-endo-immune repsonse plays a significant role in immune conditions such as chronic infections and cancer.

Wellness based chiropractors analyze the spine for subluxations and adjust to reduce stress on the nervous system.

In 1992, a research group found that when a thoracic adjustment was applied to a subluxated aera, the white blood cell count rose significantly.

Daily stress, whether nutritional, enviormental, physical, or emotional will affect how long the benefits of chiropractic adjustments can last. During times of increased stress, or with a weakened immune system, more frequent chiropractic adjustments may be needed to ensure immune function.

A Study of over 20,000 Neck Adjustments Reveal...

Data was collected from patients after researchers set out to identify symptoms that could predict whether patients would feel "better" or "worse" immediately following neck adjustments. Patients in this study presented symptoms such as: reduced neck/shoulder/arm movement, neck pain/ shoulder pain/ arm pain/ headache, upper/mid-back pain.

Researchers determind that 95% of patients with the symptoms were immediately improved following a neck adjustment!

Pain is usually the first symptom to appear. Whether you suffering from headaches, shoulder, neck pain, or leg pain---complete healing takes time.

Tissues that do not fully heal and joints that do not move properly are prone to re-injury.

Why is pain shooting down from my back to my legs?

Why is pain shooting down from my back to my legs?

The most common reason the pain or numbness or tingling will be shooting down your leg from your back is that you are having a disc problem in your lower back. Disc problems such as, disc bulges, inflammation, disc herniation's, disc extrusions are all very painful. A disc problem can take awhile to heal. Good news is that whether you choose Chiropractic care or surgery, the healing process will take about the same time with possibly the same results. So instead of the extra pain, give chiropractic a try.

You can also have tight muscles that compress or entrap nerves. This can happen with your hip flexors or even your hamstrings. As muscles start to bunch up and the muscle fibers adhere together forming scar tissue it then starts to wrap up the nerve fibers and create additional compression on your nerves. A chiropractor can diagnose and help to relieve the entrapped nerves.

If you are having an episode of this, get an ice pack out of the freezer and call us. We will be able to diagnose your problem correctly.
Any back problem that is extending into your leg, is not going to go away over night. You will need regular and frequent care to feel better for the long term.

Do you or someone you know suffer from pulmonary disease?

Do you or someone you know suffer from pulmonary disease?

Asthma affects over 17 million Americans as well as COPD.
Often, during the warm months children and adults with a lung disease can have flare ups.

Pulmonary diseases cause many symptoms such as blockage of airways, shortness of breath, tightness in chest, wheezing, and a cough to name a few. Many individuals with this disease have resolved maintenance of the illness by using inhalers. However, Chiropractic care has been shown to help improve the condition with regular chiropractic treatments.

Chiropractic treatment involves the realignment of the spine and therefore the nerves. Chiropractic manipulation can eliminate obstruction during nerve impulse conduction to the lungs and airway. When adjusted, your body is restored to its natural state of alignment, nerves can then function as they should, allowing the lungs to function properly.

Chiropractic care can also benefit by fixing musculoskeletal alignment problems in the ribcage and spine. When this is done, the thoracic cavity is free to expland like it should.

There is a study performed by Graham and Pistolese. The study was performed on 81 asthmatic patients before the start of chiropractic care and two months after their care. The results of this study showed improvment in 90.1% of patients 60 days after chiropractic care. The patients also reported nearly 50% reduction of frequency of asthma attacks.

Life style changes like chiropractic care can be an asset in the lung disease treatment process.
